  11. This file gives a summary of the mouse operations available in 
  12. PipeDream 4.  It is intended as a reminder rather than an exhaustive 
  13. reference.  For more information refer to the section called Caret 
  14. Movements in the PipeDream 4 Reference Guide.

  17.  
  18. Many of these mouse operations are described interactively in the RISC 
  19. OS !Help application when used in conjunction with PipeDream 4
  20.  
  21. %H2%Opening a Pipedream window
  22.  
  23. To open a new PipeDream window, click Select on the PipeDream icon on 
  24. the icon bar.

  26. %H2%Bringing up menus and choosing commands
  27.  
  28. With the pointer in a PipeDream window, click Menu to bring up the top 
  29. level menu.

  31. To bring up a sub-menu, drag the pointer over the arrow to the right of 
  32. the menu name.

  34. To choose a command, click Select on the command name.  This carries 
  35. out the command and removes the menu from the screen.  If you click 
  36. Adjust, the menu remains on the screen.

  41. To load a PipeDream document, either double-click on its icon, or drag 
  42. its icon onto the Pipedream icon on the icon bar.

  44. To insert a file at the caret position, drag the file's icon into the 
  45. window.

  48. %H2%Positioning the caret
  49.  
  50. Always use the Select key to position the caret within slots.  Normally 
  51. the caret will be positioned in the slot you are pointing at.  However, 
  52. if there is a text slot to the left of the slot you are pointing at, 
  53. PipeDream will position the caret in the slot to the left.  This 
  54. prevents you accidentally typing in columns to the right of where you 
  55. expected.

  59. So, if you click above between the v and the ^, PipeDream will place 
  60. the caret after the word left.
  61.  
  62. If you really want to position the caret to the right of a text slot, 
  63. hold down Ctrl when you click Select.  Alternatively a single click in 
  64. the column border will move the caret into that column.  So if you 
  65. click between the v and ^ above the caret will go into column A.  If 
  66. you then click on the D in the column border at the top of the window 
  67. PipeDream will move the caret into column D.

  70. %H2%Marking blocks
  71.  
  72. To mark a block, hold down the Select button and drag from the
  73. top-left of the block to the bottom right.

  75. To mark complete columns, drag Select across the column borders.
  76.  
  77. To mark complete rows, drag Select down the row borders.

  79. To mark one complete row, double-click Select in the row border.

  81. To mark one complete column, double-click Select in the column border.

  83. To clear any marked block, click in the Mark Block box at the 
  84. intersection of the row and column borders.

  86. To mark the whole document, click Select in the Mark Block box at the 
  87. intersection of the row and column borders.

  89. To adjust a marked block after marking it, move the pointer to the 
  90. point at which you now want the block to end and click Adjust. The 
  91. marked block will now end where you click. The starting point will 
  92. remain the same.

  94. %H2%Entering slot references into the editing line
  95.  
  96. To enter a slot reference into the editing line whilst you are editing 
  97. an expression, click Select in the slot.  The slot can be in the 
  98. current window or in another, in which case you will insert an external 
  99. reference.

  101. %H2%Scrolling the window
  102.

  105. Position the pointer on the scroll arrow and click Select to scroll one 
  106. line in the direction of the arrow.  Hold down Select to continue 
  107. scrolling.  Click Adjust to scroll in the other direction.  The caret 
  108. always remains within the PipeDream window, staying as near as possible 
  109. to its original position.

  111. Position the pointer on the darker part of the scroll bar (above the 
  112. slider to scroll up, below the slider to scroll down) and click Select.  
  113. The next windowful of the document will appear.  Click Adjust to scroll 
  114. back the other way.  The caret always remains within the PipeDream 
  115. window, moving, if necessary, to the point nearest to its position 
  116. before scrolling.

  118. To move a long distance up or down drag the slider in the vertical 
  119. scroll bar.

  123. Click on the left and right arrows in the horizontal scroll bars to 
  124. move one column left or right.

  126. Click in the dark grey area of the scroll bar to move the window one 
  127. windowful left or right.
